4 Reasons Manufacturing Jobs are Great

Posted

Wondering if manufacturing is a good choice when looking for a good job?  There are plenty of reasons why you should consider a manufacturing career.

As an industry, manufacturing has been growing steadily for several years now. Its growth is hinting at the fact that the industry is changing. Companies are struggling to find skilled and responsible workers who can keep their machines and business running smoothly. Manufacturing jobs are well-paid with a high level of technical knowledge required. But for the right people, these opportunities are hard to pass up. Technical skills are needed to step into these new roles. Yet, for those who have the right experience or an interest to learn how manufacturing is changing the world today, this is an exciting market to be in. Here are just some of the reasons why manufacturing jobs are great.

Compensation

The manufacturing industry has long fought against the myth that jobs didn’t pay way. While that has changed, the stigma has been hard to shake. Some manufacturing jobs are indeed low-paying. But many full-time workers get paid more than $75,000 annually. In addition to salary, employees often receive valuable benefits such as health insurance, pension plans, and retirement funds. Of course, pay is more likely to vary based on the employee’s position and level of experience. But for those skilled workers who really add value to their employers, their jobs are well compensated.

Opportunities for a Diverse Workforce

Whoever said that women are not welcome in manufacturing jobs was well behind the times. Women have had a long and historical impact on the manufacturing industry, dating back to the Second World War. While the majority of workers in manufacturing are likely to be men, the development of advanced technology and innovative manufacturing processes, women are more than welcome in the industry, and employers are actively hiring women for a wide variety of roles and positions.

Skilled Talent Required

People are talented in different ways, no matter what industry they are in. Simply disregarding the fact that the manufacturing industry is full of interesting and challenging projects and saying that no specific skills are required in an individual to enter this industry is baseless. From manufacturing engineers to a manager, all jobs need skilled and experienced staff members with skills from the technical to the managerial.

A Future Facing Industry

Manufacturing has changed a lot in the last 20 years. For a while, it seemed unclear how talent in the industry would fare long term as more jobs became automated. It’s much clearer now where automation does and doesn’t work. Things will always be in use and needing to be replaced, from our technology to our clothes, to our cars. 20 years ago, we had no idea how the manufacturing industry would change. But today we see exciting advances in IoT, automated manufacturing, and other technological advances. Who can say what those advances will look like in another 10 years? It’s safe to say that this dynamic field will continue to grow and evolve.
